I paid tribute in Parliament to bystanders who intervened during a North Belfast knife attack. During an Urgent Question in the Commons, I praised local residents who restrained the assailant until police arrived. As Northern Ireland Affairs Committee member, I commended the community spirit, sought PSNI resource assurances for a swift investigation and called for formal recognition. What we witnessed was the worst of humanity but we also saw the best. Those who stood their ground to save a life deserve formal recognition.
