Calling for Care Standards Debate

I called for a Commons debate on care home director accountability following constituent complaints about Wayside Care Home. Speaking during Business of the House questions, I highlighted allegations the director breached CQC ‘fit and proper person’ standards, including charging fees for deceased residents. Leader of the House Sir Alan Campbell confirmed the provider has been placed in special measures.

Where directors repeatedly fall below expected standards, there must be appropriate consequences to protect vulnerable residents.

I pledged to keep pressing ministers to hold directors to the highest standards.
