Leading Debate on Mental Health Support in Schools

I have led a crucial parliamentary debate on mental health support in schools, calling for urgent improvements to ensure young people receive the help they need. I highlighted that one in five young people had a probable mental disorder in 2023, with emergency referrals tripling since 2019. Drawing on concerns from teachers, parents, and students in Redditch and the Villages, I urged the government to fund nationwide Mental Health Support Teams, place school counsellors in every school, and invest in early intervention. I stressed that good mental health is as vital as physical health for young people’s futures.
