I praised the vital role of local convenience stores after attending the Association of Convenience Stores’ Heart of the Community Reception in Parliament. The event brought together MPs and retailers to celebrate the contribution of small shops to communities across the UK. I met with Redditch shopkeepers, discussing challenges such as retail crime and rising cost and highlighted the importance of supporting high streets and independent businesses. I reaffirmed my commitment to standing up for local shops and ensuring they receive the support needed to thrive. The convenience store sector supports over 405,000 jobs nationwide and continues to play a crucial role in neighbourhood life.
