Demanding Action on Heating Oil Price Gouging to Protect Rural Households

I called for urgent reform of the heating oil market, warning that rural households are facing outright price gouging without adequate protection.
Speaking in a Westminster Hall debate, I highlighted the financial strain on families in villages such as Inkberrow and Cookhill, where many rely on off-grid heating. I pointed out that these households are exposed to sudden and sharp price increases, lacking the safeguards available to those connected to the gas grid.
While acknowledging the Government’s recent support through the Crisis and Resilience Fund, I emphasised that short-term aid cannot replace the need for structural change. I am campaigning for a statutory price cap, increased transparency from suppliers and stronger protections for vulnerable residents.
Where someone lives should not determine whether they are protected. It’s time for comprehensive action to ensure fair energy costs for rural communities. I pledged to continue pressing Ministers to address these issues and deliver lasting solutions.
